My happy book

Years ago (about 13 or so) I came across a book called "14,000 Things to be Happy About". I thought "wow, that's a lot of stuff", and although at the time I was quite a cynical young thing, for some reason I bought the book. It is basically a list that this person kept of all the things she had to be happy about. The more I read the more I thought what a great idea it would be to have my own "Happy book." So I went out and bought a small, fat, spiral bound notebook, and began my list. I must admit, I haven't really been consistent in my listing. I usually pick it up and flip through it when I need a little pick me up, or when I am feeling sorry for myself. And when I do, I always end up adding a couple of pages to the list. I find that I have several items listed more than once, like "a baby's laugh," "good deals", and "finished projects." And several items on my list conjure up quite vivid memories, which is fun because I get to relive those happy times. Of course, I occasionally run across something like "bulgey ass", and wonder what in the world that means. My most recent entries include "Drake", "winning mad money", and "beating the hell out of an alarm clock that someone set too early." (I giggle every time I think about that.) My happy book has been through a lot with me. I had it through college, I took it with me on my mission, I've kept it on my headboard all through my married years. It had gotten quite worn out. Last night I looked at it and thought, "I could alter this, that would make me happy." So the happy book got a makeover and it did make me happy. (Yes, I wrote "altered notebooks" in my happy book.) I hope to have it for years to come. Some day, I hope to fill it completely with all the things that make me happy.

Silly Baby

I think it is so fun when babies start discovering the world around them. Exploring seems to be their top priority. And sometimes they get themselves into places that they can't get out of. Drake's favorite is to climb into the TV stand, but he can't quite figure out how to get out. Poor silly baby.

Happy Father's Day

One of my favorite things about being a mom is that my dear husband gets to be a dad. Nothing brings me greater joy than to watch him playing with Drake. It brings a smile to my face when I am in the other room and I hear Drake laughing with his dad. Or when they are downstairs and I come to see what they are doing and Shane is sitting in the recliner with Drake asleep in the crook of his arm. I love that! I love that he gets up with him in the morning. It is fun to lay in bed and listen to Shane telling Drake good morning while he changes his diaper and gets him fed. I love Shane's seemingly endless patience and how he knows when I need a break for a bit from Drake. (Yes, I am a normal mother, I do need a break from time to time.) I love that he calls home during the day just to see how "his boy" is doing. I love that he misses him so much when he is out of town. I love that Drake's favorite babble is "dadada", (even if he isn't really trying to say "daddy"). I love how Drake gets so excited when he sees his daddy. They are already buddies and love each other so. Thanks Shane for being such a wonderful dad to our little guy.

I won!!!!

So, I entered a contest this past week to win "mad money" from Utah's AM 820 talk radio station. It's the radio station for women, kind of like Lifetime is the TV channel for women. Anyway, it was free to enter, I just had to fill out the form and I was entered. Then I had to listen four times a day to see if they called my name. Well, today they did. Woohoo!! I was so excited, I never win anything. So I won $100 for me and $100 for a friend (congrats Jana (I picked Jana cause she's the one that introduced me to that station)) and have a chance to win $820 in the grand prize drawing on the 22nd, so wish me luck. I even got to be on the radio. I am sure I sounded like a dork, but I don't care, I have $100.

FIRE!!!!

So, Friday morning I was sitting at home and I heard a siren. Well, thinking that it sounded really close, I looked out the window and saw one of my neighbors and her two kids standing on another neighbors lawn next to a paramedic vehicle. I thought "Holy crap, I hope the kids are ok". Then I took a step away from the window and caught sight of their house, and thought, "HOLY CRAP, their house is on fire". There were flames coming out of the top of the garage and lots of black smoke.

Of course, being the closet pyromaniac that I am, I had to stand and watch it. (And take pictures). There ended up being two paramedics and three fire engines, plus the fire investigators and some news cameras. Turns out the little boy (about 10 yrs, old) lit a cardboard box on fire that morning, thought he put it out and left for school. The aunt and her two boys were asleep in the basement and woke up to the sound of the fire alarm. Scary!! Their garage was pretty toasted and I am sure both cars in the garage and pretty much ruined. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but let this be a lesson to you kids. Don't play with matches. Unless you "have" to. Hehehe. It wasn't the coolest thing I have ever seen, but I learned that vinyl siding looks really cool went it melts, and it did provide me a lot of entertainment for me.

Dragon Pic of the week (or month, to be more accurate)

Ok, I know it has been a long time since you all were blessed with a picture of my tiny guy, so here you go. This is an old keyboard that Shane brought home from work. Drake loves to pound on it and chew on the cord. I am hoping to teach him how to compose a novel soon, but until that happens, all you get is a picture.
